Justin P. scored two goals, and the Bishop Moore Hornets attacked Winter Park from all angles Tuesday to grab a 16-3 victory in a Region 2 boys lacrosse semifinal.
Bishop Moore (17-2, No. 7 in LaxPower state rankings) carries a five-game winning streak into a Region 2 final match at Tampa Jesuit, a 19-9 winner over Lithia Newsome, on Friday at 7 p.m.
Bishop Moore’s offense benefited from goals from nine different Hornets. Brooks R., Jack McK. Jackson C., Jake K., and Hudson B. scored two goals each.
“Being able to step up (is key),” Bishop Moore coach Reed Reynolds said. “You know they’re going to key on whoever the main threats are. You have to hope that the other offensive guys on the field can step up.”
Justin P. sparked the Hornets early, scoring two goals to help the Hornets race to a 6-0 lead. Jake K. and Hudson B. had Bishop Moore goals in a six-second stretch, then closed the quarter with goals by Jake K. and Brooks R. in the last 10 seconds.
After Jack McK. made it 7-0 Bishop Moore, Winter Park started playing the Hornets tighter on defense in the second quarter. But the Hornets outscored Winter Park 5-1 in the third quarter and pulled away.
Goalkeeper Mike R. also proved the great eraser when Bishop Moore’s defense struggled. Mike R. made 12 saves, many at point-blank range. He also benefited from a few shots off the pipe.
