When Bishop Moore met Tampa Jesuit in a March boys lacrosse match, the Hornets handed the Tigers their worst loss of the season, a 14-5 drubbing in Orlando.
Friday night’s region playoff rematch in Tampa would prove to be more of a challenge for Bishop Moore. But junior Jake K. scored five goals and sophomore Brooks R. notched a pair as the Hornets defeated Jesuit 8-5 to advance to next week’s state tourney in Boca Raton.
“They made some adjustments after our first match. It’s the playoffs. Everyone wants to keep playing” said Hornets head coach Reed Reynolds.
Jake K. scored the first two goals of the game for the Hornets (18-2). Brooks R. added a first period goal to give Bishop Moore a 3-0 advantage.
The rest of the half would belong to the Tigers. Back-go-back goals pulled the home team to within 4-3 and another score at 1:43 tied the game going into halftime.
The Hornets regained the momentum in the third period as Jake K. scored a pair of goals a minute and forty seconds apart. Brooks R. then notched his second goal of the night for a 7-4 lead .
“We’ve preached discipline and doing the little things,” Reynolds said. “All of the running and stick work in the preseason. This group has worked really hard to get here”
Bishop Moore will play Ponte Vedra in a Friday, May 11, state semifinal.
