The Bishop Moore boys lacrosse (18-2) are trying to bring a lacrosse state title back to Orlando after their girls prevailed last year.
In the FHSAA championship match at 8 p.m. Saturday, the Hornets will take on Jupiter (20-2). The Hornets made the most of the first state semifinal berth in program history.
Bishop Moore fell behind early 2-0, but they stormed back with four unanswered goals in the last 6:44 of the first quarter to take a 4-2 lead. Junior Dillon W. netted the first of those scores, then junior Jake K. sandwiched a pair of goals around one by sophomore Brooks R.
Senior goalkeeper Mike R. had a strong performance. Ponte Vedra scored early in the second quarter to pull within one goal, but Jake K. scored again before sophomore Jack McK. added a pair of goals in the final five minutes of the first half to give the Hornets a 7-3 advantage. Junior Phillip P. added a goal in the third quarter, giving the Hornets an 8-4 lead.
The championship game against Jupiter is at 8 pm on Saturday night.
