Multiple Teams · Boys Basketball Defeats Eustis as Final Buzzer Sounds

Orlando, FL – The Boys Basketball team (13-0, 4-0) defeated district rival Eustis, 40-39, on Tuesday night in front of a packed Bishop Moore gym. The teams played a closely matched, defensive struggle throughout, with scores of 10-9, 20-19 and 33-33 at the end of each quarter.

Down 2 points with just seconds to go, senior J.P. L. saved a deflected pass from going out of bounds with a behind the back, no look assist to fellow senior Jess H. in his favorite corner. Jess casually saved the ball from the Student Section, tossed up a fadeaway 3-point shot over a Eustis defender, and the ball passed safely through the net as the buzzer sounded.

Jess H. scored 7 points on the night, and J.P. L. scored 5 points to go along with his team high 4 assists. Stephen M. led the Hornets with 9 points and added 6 rebounds and 3 charges taken. Osyon J. scored 7 points and was a monster on the boards grabbing 9 rebounds, and 6 of them on the offensive glass. Hunter C. scored 7 points and grabbed 7 rebounds as well.

The Hornets had a tough night shooting, but dug in deep on defense holding Eustis to 30 points below their scoring average. Eustis drops to 8-5 and 2-2 in the district. In the JV game, the Hornets also defeated Eustis, 38-24. Jose E. and Marc M. both scored 11 points and Kyle H. added 10 points. The Freshman lost to Montverde, 57-31.
