Boys Varsity Basketball · Boys Basketball Season Ends at Eustis

EUSTIS, FL – The Boys Basketball Team (9-17) lost in the District Semifinals, 58-54, against Eustis on Tuesday night. The teams split the season series, each winning at home in convincing fashion. The Hornets won just one week ago at home against the Panthers.

Both teams got off to a slow start, feeling each other out and being very deliberate on offense. Midway through the 2nd quarter, the teams were tied 13-13, when Eustis began to capitalize on Bishop Moore miscues. A handful of Hornet turnovers, along with missed free throws, let Eustis go on a 12-2 run to take a 25-15 halftime lead. The Panthers came out with more energy and continued to force the action, going on a 12-5 run and pushed the lead out to 17 points. Bishop Moore called timeout, leveled out their play and stopped the Eustis run for the final 3 minutes of the 3rd. The 3rd quarter came to and end with Bishop Moore down 43-26. But the Hornets weren’t done.

Bishop Moore came out in the 4th with renewed energy and played with urgency. Drives to the basket by Osyon J. and TrayVon O. kept the Eustis defense on its heels, which allowed the Hornets to chip into the lead. A near turnover turned into a kick out to Keyshawn H. for a huge 3-pointer, cutting the lead to 10. Bishop Moore continued to attack the rim and cut the lead to 6 on a Blake B. drive to the basket in traffic. A Marc M. layup and 3-pointers from Blake B. and Keyshawn H. cut the Eustis lead to 3 points with 9 seconds to go. Bishop Moore’s attempt to steal the ball was unsuccessful, resulting in a foul and free throws for Eustis. The Panthers made 1 to put the game out of reach, and Bishop Moore’s final shot at the buzzer did not materialize.

Keyshawn H. led the Hornets with 18 points, 11 of which came in the critical 4th quarter run. Blake B. added 11 points and Marc M. scored 10 points. Osyon J. added 8 points and TrayVon O. chipped in with 7 points, all in the 2nd half.

The 2019-20 season is now complete for the Bishop Moore Boys Basketball programs. On behalf of the Coaches and Players, we would like to say a huge thank you to all of the Parents, Fans, Staff and Administrators for supporting us all season long! Go Hornets!
