ORLANDO, FL – The Boys Basketball team (1-2) earned their first win of the year over Citrus League foe Trinity Prep (0-3), 62-56 on Friday night. The Hornets were happy to play in their home gym and the scoreboard showed it. After hitting some offensive speed bumps in season’s first two games, Bishop Moore put the pieces together and found success.
The game was a little slow to start and Bishop Moore found itself down 7 points early in the 2nd quarter. But some transition play and some timely offense from Blake B. and TrayVon O. helped the Hornets get to the locker room with a 29-24 lead at the half. A solid defensive 3rd quarter helped Bishop Moore extend the lead to 9 points. The final quarter saw both teams score at a frenetic pace, but the Hornets made their free throws down the stretch and earned the win.
Blake B. led all scorers with 26 points, and TrayVon O. added 12 points. Van M. played big once again in the paint, grabbing 7 rebounds and scoring 7 points. Isaiah D. added 7 points as well. Both Marc M. and Nate R. chipped in 5 points and played outstanding defense down the stretch.
The Hornets are back in action on Monday in another Citrus League contest at The First Academy.
The JV team won their early game, 52-49, to improve to 2-1 on the season. The Freshman team was off tonight, but will play in the Lake Highland Prep Freshman Shootout on Saturday with games against Lake Highland and Windermere Prep.
